Remember the wedding I blogged about in my last post? Well the ring bearers just so happened to need some matching ties to coordinate with the wedding party. So I made them some and thought I would share with you the tutorial. I found it via Pinterest from this fabulous blog.
You will need:
  • Face fabric of your choice
  • Lining fabric
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Velcro or elastic
  • Pattern found Here
First, print out your pattern and cut it out. You may need to adjust the size depending on the age of your child. I added about 6″ in length to mine for 2 year olds. Then, lay it out on your fabric and cut one from your face fabric and one from your lining. Lay them on top of each other with right sides facing and pin each of the pointed ends together.
Sew each of the pointed ends together at 1/4″ seam allowance. Trim the seams.
Turn it right side out, push your points out so they are nice and sharp and iron it flat.
Next pin together the raw edges right sides together and sew at 1/4″ seam allowance.

Iron the seams out flat and turn it right side out by pinning a safety pin to the end and pushing it through.

Iron it flat with the seam in the middle.
So the front will look something like this.
Next you’re going to cut out a strip of fabric 2 3/4″ wide by 16″ long. This is the strip of fabric that will go around the neck so you will probably want to measure your little guys neck and make this longer or shorter as needed. Fold it right sides together and sew it along the long edge using 1/4″ seam allowance. Iron the seams flat, and flip it right side out using the safety pin method as used above. Iron it flat. At this point you can add elastic to the sides if you want or just fold under the seams and iron them shut. I added Velcro to each end.

How to tie the tie:

Place your tie around the neck piece like this.

Then fold the back part of the tie across the front.

Bring the back piece up under the neck piece.
Then slip it under the front piece so the back part of the tie is underneath the front.
Pull it tight.

Here’s what it looks like from the back.

From the front.

Finish your edges and add elastic or Velcro.

Don’t they look cute?!

This would be perfect if you need an inexpensive tie for any special occasion. You could even use one of your husbands old ties! So fun!
